CBD Capsules vs CBD Oils: What is the Difference?

July 10, 2024

While there is an increasing number of ways in which you can take CBD and reap the benefits, there are two main ways that remain the most common and popular ways to take CBD – capsules & oils. These two methods are incredibly easy & practical; but what are the main differences between CBD capsules and CBD oils? Which is best? Or which one is right for you?

Here at Fourfive, we’re determined to not only offer the best CBD on the market but we’re also dedicated to helping you find the best way to enjoy our CBD. That said, we’ve outlined some of the key differences between CBD capsules and CBD oils to help you decide which one you should go with.

CBD Capsules vs Oils: Taste Difference

The first difference between CBD capsules and CBD oils is the taste of the two methods. CBD oil naturally has an earthy and grass-like taste, as you would expect due to the origins of CBD. Whilst some people love this and choose CBD oils for this exact reason, others might not be so keen and prefer a more neutral taste. CBD capsules offer a taste-free alternative while providing the same benefits that studies suggest CBD has!

Capsules vs Oils: Dosage

Another key difference between CBD capsules and oils is the dosage. We understand that if you are new to CBD, figuring out how much to take and when can be a bit of a minefield.

In order to make things easier for you, Fourfive CBD capsules only come in 10mg CBD dosage. We offer two sizes of this product, the 300mg and 600mg CBD capsules, but these differ in quantity only. Our 600mg CBD box contains 60 x 10mg CBD capsules which will last you a month, if you take two a day. Alternatively, if you opt for a smaller dose of CBD and only take one a day, our 300mg CBD box will provide you with the 30 capsules you need for the month.

Whilst you can easily adjust your daily dosage with CBD oils, CBD capsules are a much easier way to keep track of exactly what dose you are taking, especially if you are new to CBD.

As you can imagine, when it comes to increasing and decreasing your CBD dosage when taking CBD oil, things can be a little more complex. You can find out more information on recommended doses as well as calculating your CBD dosage on our blog. It is also possible to take oils and capsules simultaneously if you choose, just make sure you don’t exceed the recommended daily dose of 70mg CBD.

CBD Capsules vs Oils: Bioavailability

Another crucial difference between CBD capsules and CBD oils, are the levels of bioavailability that the two products possess. Bioavailability simply means how much of the CBD compound your body is able to absorb when ingested.

Traditionally CBD oils have a higher level of bioavailability than CBD capsules do. This is because CBD oil is allowed to enter your bloodstream at a much earlier stage of ingestion than capsules are. When you take CBD oil by spraying or dropping under your tongue (sub-ligually), the CBD compounds are able to enter your bloodstream almost instantly.

As you have to digest CBD capsules before they can get to work, some of the compounds are lost in the process and you’ll enjoy a smaller percentage of CBD.

At fourfive we have done some things to help counteract this. Our CBD capsules are unique in that they also contain inulin, a soluble plant-based fibre that is said to have a whole host of health benefits, including improving digestive health by acting as a prebiotic. We also recommend that if you opt for CBD capsules you take them with food; Ideally with healthy fats such as avocado, nuts and oily fish which will help your body breakdown and absorb the CBD compounds as efficiently as possible.

If you are looking to absorb as high a percentage of CBD as possible (and this could be for a number of reasons), then CBD oils might be better for you than CBD capsules. At Fourfive we have a wide range of CBD oils varying in strength:

So, which is best for me? CBD Capsules or CBD Oil?

CBD Capsules offer the following benefits that other methods might not:

  • Taste-free capsules, if you don’t like the earthy, grassy taste of oils or sprays, a neutral-tasting CBD capsule might just be for you!
  • Exact and easy control over your CBD dosage. You’ll know exactly how much CBD you are taking per capsule.
  • Capsules are easy to store and take. The bottle of CBD capsules is easy to carry around, so you can take CBD whenever you want.

Essentially, if you are looking for an easy, safe and taste-free way to enjoy CBD, then our range of capsules might just be what you are looking for.

However, while CBD capsules might not taste like the earthy/grassy-ness that CBD oil does and they might be easier and more convenient to take, CBD capsules don’t let your body absorb as much of the CBD compound as CBD Oil does. So if you are looking to reap as many of the benefits of CBD as possible and in a shorter amount of time, then CBD oils might be the choice for you.
